  30. The Distribution Diskette not only contains YOUR VERY OWN
  31. ^040, but it contains a Text Processor as
  32. well.  The Distribution Diskette contains data files which
  33. are used to customize the program.  The data files are
  34. used to customize the documentation as well.

  36. The result is a complete set of programs and documentation
  37. for YOUR VERY OWN ^040, to let you record
  38. information, update that information, personalize that
  39. information, inquire into that information, and report
  40. that information on the display screen or printer.

  80. YOUR VERY OWN ^040 runs on any member of
  81. the IBM PC Family of Computers, including the IBM PCjr, the
  82. IBM PC, the IBM Portable PC, the IBM PC/XT, and the IBM
  83. PC/AT, as well as any of the ~Truly-Compatibles~.

  85. You need to have 60K available for the program, so you will
  86. need a PC with at least 128K.

  88. You will need a Printer to produce the documentation, and
  89. to produce the output from inquiries.  The IBM Graphics
  90. Printer is the supported printer.  Another printer may be
  91. substituted, if the user follows the instructions for
  92. modifications supplied in the PRINTERS Program.

  94. You will need a Monitor (either Monochrome or Color).

  96. You will need one double-sided Diskette Drive.

  98. YOUR VERY OWN ^040 runs under IBM PC DOS
  99. Version 2.0 or later versions.

  101. YOUR VERY OWN ^040 is a BASIC Program.
  102. The Text Processor is also a BASIC Program.

  104. Therefore, you must have BASIC available, either on a
  105. Cartridge if you are using the IBM PCjr, or on a diskette
  106. or hard disk, if you are using another member of the IBM PC
  107. Family of Computers.

  174. .h1 USING THE PROGRAMS
  175. .h2 FIRST TIME USAGE
  176. First time usage, in order to obtain the documentation, is
  177. accomplished with the following steps.
  178. .h3 Backing Up the Distribution Diskette
  179. The Distribution Diskette should be backed up, upon receipt,
  180. through the use of the ~DISKCOPY~ Command of IBM PC DOS.
  181. Please refer to the DOS Manual to obtain the specifics,
  182. which depend upon the number of Diskette Drives which your
  183. system has.

  188. .h3 The ~RUNFIRST~ Program
  189. The ~RUNFIRST~ program, which is a copy of the cover letter,
  190. shows you the steps which must be taken when you obtain a
  191. copy of YOUR VERY OWN ^040.
  192. .h3 The ~PRINTERS~ Program
  193. The ~PRINTERS~ Program needs to be RUN if you are using some
  194. printer other than an IBM Graphics Printer (or equivalent),
  195. because of the differences in control characters which cause
  196. printers to change type-font, eject pages, etc.

  198. It shows you what changes must be made to the Text Processor
  199. (TEXTPROC) to obtain the documentation, and to YOUR VERY OWN
  200. ^040 to print the results from inquiries.
  201. .h3 Changing Printer Control in the Text Processor
  202. It will be necessary for you to make changes in the Text
  203. Processor (TEXTPROC) itself, to change the program to agree
  204. with the characteristics of your printer.

  206. Lines 220 through 280 of the Text Processor will have to be
  207. modified by editing those lines, and making the appropriate
  208. changes.

  210. Please refer to the BASIC Manual for information on editing.

  212. .h3 Printing the Documentation
  213. Once the Text Processor has been changed to coincide with
  214. the characteristics of your printer, you can RUN it, and
  215. obtain the documentation.

  217. After bringing up DOS and BASIC, and with the backed-up
  218. Distribution Diskette in drive a:, type the following:

  220.   run ~textproc~
  221. .sp
  222. and press the 'enter' key.

  224. You should then follow any instructions which appear on the
  225. screen, and select sections of the documentation to be
  226. printed.
  227. .h2 Getting Started
  228. Once the Documentation has been printed, you should turn to
  229. the section titled:  ~THE FIRST TIME~  to learn what to do
  230. next.  (This involves setting up a new diskette for your data
  231. files.)
