.h1 INTRODUCTION
.h2 Overview
The Distribution Diskette not only contains YOUR VERY OWN
^040, but it contains a Text Processor as
well. The Distribution Diskette contains data files which
are used to customize the program. The data files are
used to customize the documentation as well.
.sp
The result is a complete set of programs and documentation
for YOUR VERY OWN ^040, to let you record
information, update that information, personalize that
information, inquire into that information, and report
that information on the display screen or printer.

.h2 REQUIREMENTS
.h2 Hardware Requirements
YOUR VERY OWN ^040 runs on any member of
the IBM PC Family of Computers, including the IBM PCjr, the
IBM PC, the IBM Portable PC, the IBM PC/XT, and the IBM
PC/AT, as well as any of the ~Truly-Compatibles~.
.sp
You need to have 60K available for the program, so you will
need a PC with at least 128K.
.sp
You will need a Printer to produce the documentation, and
to produce the output from inquiries. The IBM Graphics
Printer is the supported printer. Another printer may be
substituted, if the user follows the instructions for
modifications supplied in the PRINTERS Program.
.sp
You will need a Monitor (either Monochrome or Color).
.sp
You will need one double-sided Diskette Drive.
.h2 Software Requirements
YOUR VERY OWN ^040 runs under IBM PC DOS
Version 2.0 or later versions.
.sp
YOUR VERY OWN ^040 is a BASIC Program.
The Text Processor is also a BASIC Program.
.sp
Therefore, you must have BASIC available, either on a
Cartridge if you are using the IBM PCjr, or on a diskette
or hard disk, if you are using another member of the IBM PC
Family of Computers.

Diskette:
.sp
Batch
Program
Name Purpose of the Batch Program
-------- -------------------------------------------------
CLEANDOC To remove the documentation programs and files
from the User's Data Diskette.
.h1 USING THE PROGRAMS
.h2 FIRST TIME USAGE
First time usage, in order to obtain the documentation, is
accomplished with the following steps.
.h3 Backing Up the Distribution Diskette
The Distribution Diskette should be backed up, upon receipt,
through the use of the ~DISKCOPY~ Command of IBM PC DOS.
Please refer to the DOS Manual to obtain the specifics,
which depend upon the number of Diskette Drives which your
system has.
.sp
It should look something like the following:
.sp
diskcopy a: b:
.h3 The ~RUNFIRST~ Program
The ~RUNFIRST~ program, which is a copy of the cover letter,
shows you the steps which must be taken when you obtain a
copy of YOUR VERY OWN ^040.
.h3 The ~PRINTERS~ Program
The ~PRINTERS~ Program needs to be RUN if you are using some
printer other than an IBM Graphics Printer (or equivalent),
because of the differences in control characters which cause
printers to change type-font, eject pages, etc.
.sp
It shows you what changes must be made to the Text Processor
(TEXTPROC) to obtain the documentation, and to YOUR VERY OWN
^040 to print the results from inquiries.
.h3 Changing Printer Control in the Text Processor
It will be necessary for you to make changes in the Text
Processor (TEXTPROC) itself, to change the program to agree
with the characteristics of your printer.
.sp
Lines 220 through 280 of the Text Processor will have to be
modified by editing those lines, and making the appropriate
changes.
.sp
Please refer to the BASIC Manual for information on editing.
.pa
.h3 Printing the Documentation
Once the Text Processor has been changed to coincide with
the characteristics of your printer, you can RUN it, and
obtain the documentation.
.sp
After bringing up DOS and BASIC, and with the backed-up
Distribution Diskette in drive a:, type the following:
.sp
run ~textproc~
.sp
and press the 'enter' key.
.sp
You should then follow any instructions which appear on the
screen, and select sections of the documentation to be
printed.
.h2 Getting Started
Once the Documentation has been printed, you should turn to
the section titled: ~THE FIRST TIME~ to learn what to do
next. (This involves setting up a new diskette for your data
files.)
